The artist desired a promotional video for social media. I created the element of mystery and ambiguity by building the branding with short, impactful taglines layered over a simple ominous clip of lightning. Taking cues from mythology and nature, mainly centered around tigers and the Greek god Zeus.
During a roll-out, an artist's social media presence must be at the forefront of focus, since this will be the main way they communicate with others. This header was created as a way of compacting the project into a quick glance. It is ominous, and provides enough information to know that something is coming, but they are still unsure of what exactly it is.
During my conversation with the artist, not much information was given for the direction of the branding. Due to our relationship, we have a high level of trust between each other, so he felt comfortable leaving the decisions in my hands, which is a great thing to build with a client when you can. However, when I asked how he wanted his audience to view him when this was all over, he told me he wanted to be seen as a king. This is a theme that is prevalent through the promotional materials, and in this profile picture, I decided to put it at the forefront. Rather than hinting at it, I decided to directly put it in the audience's face in a way that would force a mental association. It's a very experimental and risky decision that could've only been made with that trust we've established between each other.
